Most valuable player, defender of year, goalkeeper of year named for 2025-26 season
TAMPA, Florida -- Players that led their respective teams to a combined record of 28-2 during the 2025-26 Major Arena Soccer League Women regular season have been selected as the league's major award winners.
League Most Valuable Player is Silvia Castillo of the 10-0 Iowa Demon Hawks. The Goalkeeper of the Year is Kerstyn Williams of Detroit City FC and the Defender of the year is Jessica Miller of the ICT Aztecs. All will play in this weekend's MASL W playoffs in Detroit.
All award winners were chose by league officials in consultation with key stakeholders and teams throughout the league.
Castillo is one of about a half-dozen stars on last year's championship team in Chihuahua, Mexico, who now call Des Moines home. She led the league in scoring last year with 27 goals and 13 assists for Chihuahua and was named league MVP in 2024-25 as well. For the Demon Hawks in 2025-26, she was the team leader in goals with 31 and second overall in scoring in the league with 36 points. Her nickname is “Azee” and she played in eight games in the regular season, highlighted by back-to-back six-goal games in February.
Williams became the first goaltender in league history to post back-to-back shutouts, beating the Columbus Ealges 9-0 on March 7 after a 19-0 blanking of Yougstown on February 28. She brings a scoreless streak of over 125 minutes in game play to the post season. She Is native of Taylor, Michigan and attended Woodhaven High School. She played in 54 career games for Lourdes University, recording 18 career wins and a 1.96 goals against average. Williams had an .802 saves percentage her senior year and was a two time honorable all-state pick as a high schooler.
Miller is one of the game's veteran and steadying influences on the back line and sometimes in the midfield for the undefeated Aztecs. She was one of the league's top defenders at both ends of the field, scoring 17 points on six goals and adding 11 assists while helping to anchor the third stingiest defense in MASL W. She had 12 goals and seven assists last season Miller notched seven assists in a three-game stretch in February including five in back-to-back games against Tulsa.
