by Brian Ackley

Mark Litton, with decades of experience as an indoor and outdoor soccer player, coach and administrator, has been named Co-Commissioner for Major Arena Soccer League Women.

Litton has over 20 years of experience coaching outdoor soccer at both the collegiate and professional levels. He is the Assistant Coach with the U.S. Women’s Minifootball National team, winning the inaugural World Minifootball Federation (WMF) Women’s World Cup in Kiev, Ukraine in August, 2021.

The United States is one of eight qualifying teams for the 2024 World Cup event in Croatia which runs Oct. 7 to 10. They are in a group along with Egypt, Costa Rica and Czechia. Mexico, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine will make up the other group.

Major Arena Soccer League Women was created when the Premier Arena Soccer League and Major Arena Soccer League 3 announced its unification in early September. The unification brought together four total leagues under the Major Arena Soccer League brand, including the MASL, MASL 2, and MASL 3. In all, as many as 80 teams are expected to play MASL soccer in its four leagues from coast-to-coast and in two countries starting in 2024-25.

“Mark's experience both here and internationally will be invaluable as we continue to grow the sport in a responsible, professional, sustainable manner for the many great women players looking for an outlet to showcase their talents,” MASL W Co-Commissioner Chris Economides said. Economides also serves as commissioner for MASL 2 and MASL 3. “He's all about quality and responsibility as his resume shows. He gets the sport and what we can achieve with the MASL's stamp of approval.”

Litton has over 15 years coaching collegiately at the NCAA Division I and Division II levels, along with four years of experience coaching professionally in the A-League as well as the NPSL and WPSL.

He has an extensive and impressive resume in indoor soccer too, with over 17 years of professional indoor soccer experience coaching in the PASL, MISL and MASL. He spent 10 years as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Wave, winning three MISL championships, one year with the Cedar Rapids Rampage (MASL), three years with the St Louis Ambush (MASL) and two years with the Milwaukee Brew City Legends (PASL).

“It's an exciting time for women's indoor soccer in the U.S. as the long standing women's division of the PASL has joined the Major Arena Soccer League to form the MASL's first-ever women's division, the  MASL W, “Litton said. “As the assistant coach for the U.S. Women's Minifootball National Team, I am thrilled to take on my new responsibilities as the Co- Commissioner of the MASL W. Bringing the PASL Women's division under the MASL brand is just one step closer to unifying indoor soccer within the United States, and MASL W  will also provide a better pathway for players to the U.S. Women's Minifootball National team.”

Most recently he was the head coach of Kenosha United FC. He also spent a decade as the goalkeeper coach with the U.S. Men’s Futsal National team, having coached in three CONCACAF Qualifying tournaments and the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Additionally, he has been the Director of Goalkeeping for the U.S. Youth Futsal (USYF) National Team program for nine years. He holds a USSF ‘B’ Coaching License, a USSF National Goalkeeping Coaching License, as well as an NSCAA/USC National Goalkeeping Coaching Diploma.

Litton -- who will serves as the goalkeeper coach at the upcoming Major Arena Soccer League Pro Player Combine in San Diego which runs from Oct. 26-29 -- has been inducted into four different Halls of Fame as both a player and a coach.

A complete roster of franchises that will make up MASL W will be released in the coming weeks. Teams will play a 12-game regular season schedule starting late this fall.
